The need to belong
In one of my previous articles, I mentioned how buying your own house is usually not the answer although this is one of the biggest social markers of our time.
Humans are neither the fastest runners on earth nor the most frightening beast, to some extent, however, we made it to the top of the animal hierarchy. Part of it is due to our ability to live in tribes, or groups of people who create a complex system for task handling and innovating: one set of people will go hunting, while another group builds tools for the hunters, another will do agriculture and others will take care of the kids. This is the only way we specialized in diverse domains, built better tools than any other species and arguably outsmarted and controlled most living things on earth and beyond.
Without our tribe, we are extra vulnerable and therefore, we developed over time, a strong need to belong: believing in the same god, fighting for the same values, and behaving like our peers have become part of a survival instinct.
