What is time-boxing

Time-boxing involves organizing your schedule by allocating specific time blocks to various tasks, with varying levels of granularity. My tool of choice for that is an electronic calendar.

Example of a fully time-boxed day off :

Why it is powerful

Time boxing is a commitment to ourselves to accomplish specific actions at a time of the day and manage time proactively. This gives us very little to think about when it is time to switch from one task to another and we have therefore the best chances to actually accomplish what we planned, reduce procrastination to a minimum, and get the most out of our days.

In the corporate world, it is common for co-workers to be able to see each other’s calendars. Knowing that your teammates see how you plan to occupy your day gives you an additional sense of commitment and increases your chances of respecting your time blocks.

Additionally, it enables us to arrange our week logically, group related tasks, and plan our work towards meeting deadlines, among other benefits.
