Bye Mach3: Safety razors are much better

A little intrigued by the recent hype safety razors have right now, I decided to give them a try.

I was using the Gilette Mach 3 against the hair to get a near-perfectly shaved result and I was looking for something that would give me the feeling. After conducting thorough research, I found that a nice and cheap model was the Leaf Thorn single-edge.

This razor uses single-edge blades, which are essentially half of a regular blade. You can buy these directly or split the blades by yourself.

the most ‘aggressive’ razor that Leaf offers, the blade gap (gap between the blade and the bottom piece of metal) is a decent proxy to measure aggressiveness.

Example of the blade gap of a few famous razors

| Razor | Blade exposure (mm) |
|-------------------------|---------------------|
| Leaf Thorn | 0.64 |
| Leaf Twig | 0.42 |
| Gillette Mach3 | 0.04 |
| Henson AL13 | 0.43 |
| Merkur 34C | 0.55 |
| Edwin Jagger DE89 | 0.65 |
| Muhle R89 | 0.68 |
| Rockwell 6S | 0.41-1.29 |
| Karve CB | 0.5-1.5 |
| Razorock Game Changer | 0.68-1.04…
